Entrance Plaza Renovation at Ingersoll Hall Brooklyn College
Brooklyn, NY
Existing entry plaza, steps and ramp at Ingersoll Hall building in Brooklyn College were in poor condition due to age and weathering. This entrance to the building had been closed for safety reasons. The 5’-0” climb of stairs and ramp had not only deteriorated but was uninviting as a monumental entrance to a rather important building on the campus. The design solution presented was to raise the approaching grade creating a shorter stair rise and shorter ADA ramp. The design uses limestone and pink granite to complement the existing building façade materials. The ramp railing system uses stainless steel post and rails mimicking the existing canopy above and employs stainless steel cables in between posts creating visual transparency.
